Our Story
Established in May 1990, the Animal Emergency Clinic of Shreveport-Bossier, Inc. was founded by 24 local veterinarians who recognized the need for round-the-clock care and came together to ensure injured or ill pets in our area received prompt attention.
As the clinic evolved, it hired two full-time veterinarians to ensure consistent and reliable medical services, further enhancing its commitment to providing quality emergency care. In 2003, Dr. Jones and Dr. Welch took over as the clinic’s veterinarians, followed by their ownership in 2009, alongside long-time AEC Secretary Dr. Smith.
Since then, the clinic has expanded its services, now occupying the entire building at 2421 Line Ave, and works closely with referring veterinarians to offer comprehensive care and smooth transitions when necessary.
With four skilled full-time veterinarians, including Dr. Monceaux, proficient in diagnostic ultrasounds, and Dr. Trachtenberg, renowned for his surgical expertise, as well as a dedicated team of around 30 support staff, the Animal Emergency Clinic continues to be a vital resource for the well-being of pets and their families, ensuring top-notch care even during nights, weekends, and holidays.

We brought our puppy in a few nights ago because he chewed an electrical cord that was plugged into the wall. We were worried because of the pain he was in and the heavy breathing. The staff was absolutely amazing, and reassuring. The vet explained everything to us before leaving him and after picking him up.
Our puppy is doing so much better and we really appreciate the care and love he received from all of the employees.
I’m a long haul trucker and my little co-pilot dog Lilly got extremely sick while on the road with me. I got to the clinic on Saturday morning and was greeted by 3 very friendly and professional young ladies. They immediately got us in and got my baby the x-rays and labs needed and provided the care that was required.
I can’t thank them all enough!
The receptionists are very caring and CALM – even when you come in panicked with your hurt animal. Very understanding and willing to help ASAP. I especially speak highly of Dr. Monceaux, as she was very kind and calm, but quick, as she thoroughly looked over my dogs injuries.
